Alliance Installs Geothermal Heating For Year-Round Gold Coast Comfort

With geothermal heating systems installed by Alliance Heating and Air Conditioning, you’ll have the peace of mind that comes with knowing you’re protecting the environment. Just as important, you and your family will enjoy year-round comfort, no matter what the weather … and you’ll appreciate having much lower energy bills! Like the heat pumps Bridgeport homeowners know well, geothermal heat pumps both heat and cool a home. But they do it using what’s essentially free energy: the natural heating you’ll find under your backyard or in a pond.

How Do Geothermal Systems Provide Year-Round Comfort?

For homeowners throughout New York and Connecticut, geothermal heating systems allow you to harness the power of our planet’s core to efficiently heat and cool your home (and your water). Way back in school, you learned that the center of planet Earth is a mass of molten metal and rock. That heat seeps up through the planet’s layers, all the way up to your backyard.

Just a few feet below your lawn, the dirt and other materials stay at about the same temperature all year long, usually between 50 and 60°F (10-16° C) near our part of the Sound. That means whether you’re sweating in 90° weather or watching your lawn turn into a sheet of ice, dig down 10 or so feet, and you’ll find 55°. A geothermal system connects the heat pump to a long series of pipes or tubing installed many feet below your yard (or pond, if you have one), and a freeze-proof solution in the pipes keeps circulating between your home’s heat pump and the yard. The liquid in the pipes takes that 55° energy from the ground into your heat pump. In the winter, the heat pump uses that “warm” energy to keep you comfortable, and during summer’s peak, that “chilly” energy keeps your home consistently cool and dry.

So instead of generating the heat for your home with a fossil fuel like natural gas, you’re keeping it comfortable by directly borrowing a little bit of the Earth’s energy. Using a geothermal system will dramatically reduce your carbon footprint.

What Makes Geothermal Systems Better For Homes In Our Area?

Residents in Fairfield County and from Dutchess to Suffolk Counties ask Alliance Heating and Air Conditioning whether a geothermal system is appropriate for our part of the U.S. Not only is it appropriate, but it’s hard to think of a better choice for our local climate. Sure, we have some extreme weather now and then, but most of the time, it’s a pretty moderate climate. We get just enough summer and winter, with a lot of beautiful days in between.

That consistency and lack of extremes makes geothermal a great choice. Our region’s geography helps, too, because most communities have abundant groundwater that’s fairly shallow, which can make installing a geothermal system more cost-efficient.

What Advantages Does Geothermal Offer In New York and Connecticut?

When you take a closer look at geothermal systems for your home, you’ll quickly notice there’s a long list of benefits they provide:

  • No emissions. Unlike systems that heat by burning fossil fuels like oil and natural gas, geothermal systems involve no combustion – so there aren’t any emissions.
  • Lower bills. Today’s geothermal systems are far more energy-efficient than traditional choices like furnaces and home boilers. That’s great for the environment – and for your checkbook.
  • Better comfort. Because the Earth’s temperature is consistent, the performance of geothermal systems is also consistent, so you’ll have fewer indoor temperature swings.
  • Quieter operation. If most heaters and air conditioners keep you awake, or startle you every time they start, you’ll love the remarkably quiet operation of a geothermal system.
  • Long life. While they may look complex, geothermal systems are comparably simple. There are fewer components to maintain or wear out. Systems often deliver 25 years of service.
  • Better reliability. What we said about lifespan applies here, too. If you hope to own your home for many years, you’ll appreciate having fewer worries about your heating and cooling.

How Alliance Heating and Air Conditioning Handles Geothermal Heating Projects

The Alliance team knows geothermal technology, but most of the homeowners we serve don’t. That’s why a big part of our process of installing (or upgrading) geothermal systems involves educating folks about what’s involved. For example, we usually need to drill or trench in your yard to install what we call the loop field of pipes or tubing, using technology that minimizes damage to your landscaping. If you have a pond that’s deep enough to remain unfrozen, we may be able to run the loop field at its bottom.

Indoors, we’ll install the geothermal heat pump, which looks a lot like ordinary air-source heat pumps. Some models can also generate hot water for your home’s water supply. We’ll use more pipes and tubing to connect your indoor heat pump to the outdoor field, and then you’ll start to enjoy the comfort and economy geothermal systems provide.
