Air Handler Installation & Replacement Options

At Alliance Heating & Air Conditioning, we provide expert air handler installation, replacement, and repair throughout Fairfield County, CT, and Westchester County, NY. Our licensed technicians bring decades of experience working with all makes and models, diagnosing airflow issues, eliminating uneven temperatures, and installing high-efficiency systems that cut energy costs. We understand the unique demands of our region’s climate — from humid shoreline summers to the deep freezes upstate — and tailor every recommendation to fit your home.

Proper installation is critical. An oversized or poorly connected unit can waste energy and wear out faster. That’s why we take the time to size your air handler correctly, integrate it with your ductwork, and test it thoroughly before we leave. The result? Consistent comfort, healthier indoor air, and reliable performance season after season.

Alliance’s Air Handler Experts Help You Choose The Right Air Handler

There are three general types of air handlers that you’ll find in larger Connecticut and New York homes, allowing homeowners to choose the type that best addresses their specific needs:

  • Single-speed air handlers are typically the least expensive choice. As the name implies, they operate at their full speed all the time, so they’re either running or waiting until you need them again. The downside of single-speed models is that most consume much more electricity than the other types.
  • Multi-speed air handlers typically provide two or three operating speeds. That allows homeowners to match the intensity of the airflow to their current heating or cooling needs. When you want your home to heat up or cool off in a hurry, the higher speed makes that possible, while lower speeds are used to help your system maintain your desired temperature. Because they often use slower speeds, they require less electricity than single-speed models.
  • Variable-speed air handlers are the preferred choice for many homeowners, because they offer greater energy efficiency and more consistent comfort. While they run more of the time, they generally operate at much lower speeds unless there’s an urgent need to change the temperature. That keeps your indoor temperature steadier, no matter what the weather’s like outside, and uses far less electricity.

Which is right for your home? The Alliance Heating and Air Conditioning team will help you choose the model that best meets your comfort needs and your budget.

Does Your Home’s Air Handler Need Repairs?

Most of the time, air handlers do their work reliably and remarkably quietly. As a result, it’s not unusual for homeowners to forget how hard they work to deliver year-round comfort and economy. When you start to notice your air handler, it’s often because of symptoms like these:

  • Strange noises. Generally, the sound of your air handler is so quiet that it simply fades into the background. But if you start to hear mechanical noises like grinding, scraping, or banging sounds, something is probably wrong. It could be a motor issue or debris in your air handler, both of which could lead to a breakdown, so call Alliance Heating and Air Conditioning right away.
  • Water stains. Air handlers are normally installed in out-of-the-way-places like attics. Sometimes, differences in the temperature of what’s flowing through the air handler and the air surrounding it can lead to condensation (and sometimes, ice formation). If you notice water stains on your ceiling or small drops of water coming from the air handler’s location, it’s a good idea to get it checked out before it creates damage or begins to grow mold.
  • Ugly smells. Have you noticed a musty or mildew-like odor near the air handler’s location? Unpleasant smells suggest that something needs to be looked at. Alliance Heating and Air Conditioning’s team will be happy to check your air handler and the rest of your system to make sure everything’s okay – and to fix anything that isn’t.
  • Varying temperatures. Part of an air handler’s job is making sure temperatures are consistent throughout your home. If the bedroom is too warm and the media room is freezing, your air handler may not be performing as well as it should.
  • Bigger bills. If your utility rates haven’t changed, but you’ve noticed a sudden jump in your utility bills, there’s probably a problem somewhere in your system. Our professionals can determine whether it’s your air handler or something else.

If you have any concerns about your air handler’s operation or your home’s comfort, reach out to Alliance Heating and Air Conditioning, and we’ll check everything out. If we spot a problem, we’ll explain it and tell you the best way to address it.
